"At the end of life, what really matters is not what we bought but what we built; not what we got but what we shared; not our competence but our character; and not our success but our significance." - Nina Easton
Welcome back, dear readers, to a very special post on Fulfillment Therapy. Today marks our 150th episode, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate this milestone with you. I'm your host, Kendra Nielson, and to commemorate this, we’re diving deep into the theme of becoming our wisest, most fulfilled selves. We’ll explore how channeling the wisdom of our older, wiser self can guide us to live a more intentional and purposeful life!
"Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens." - Carl Jung
Imagine you’re reaching the end of a long, fulfilling life. You’ve experienced so much, achieved great things, and gathered profound insights. What would your older, wiser self say to you now? Reflecting on this question can offer invaluable guidance on what truly matters in life.
Looking back, what accomplishments, experiences, or realizations will matter most? Perhaps it’s the love you’ve shared with your family, the personal growth you’ve achieved, or the positive impact you’ve made in your community. These reflections can help you identify what you truly value.Take some time to write down the achievements and experiences that you hope will define your life. Consider how these align with your current actions and decisions.
"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Next, think about how you hope your loved ones will remember you. Do you want to be remembered as kind, loving, and/or supportive? Maybe someone who lived with passion and purpose?
Reflect on the qualities and behaviors you want to be remembered for. Make a conscious effort to embody these traits in your daily life by reviewing them often.
What advice would your future, wiser self give to your younger, present-day self? This could be about embracing your true passions, letting go of unnecessary worries, or prioritizing meaningful relationships.
Write a letter from your future self to your current self. Include advice on how to navigate challenges and make decisions that align with your deepest values.
Based on this advice, what goals or values emerge as most important? These could be related to personal growth, family, health, or community involvement.
Identify specific goals and values that resonate with you. Develop a plan to integrate these into your life, setting realistic and actionable steps to honor them.
"Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change." - Jim Cohn
To truly become our wisest, most fulfilled selves, we must live with intention and purpose. This means making deliberate choices that align with our values and goals, and being present in each moment.
To do this, practice mindfulness and self-reflection regularly. Set aside time each day to review your actions and ensure they align with your long-term vision for your life.
How can we apply these insights to our roles as parents? By becoming our best selves, we set a powerful example for our children, teaching them the importance of living with purpose and integrity.
To help with this, involve your family in discussions about values and goals. Create a family mission statement that reflects your collective vision and aspirations.
