As we strive to live our best lives, we often find ourselves on a quest for fulfillment that encompasses every aspect of our being—personal, familial, and spiritual. It's a journey that requires us to explore our inner selves, nurture our relationships, and cultivate a sense of well-being that resonates deeply within us. In this pursuit, we may encounter challenges that test our resolve, but it's in these moments that we discover the true strength of our character and the resilience of our spirit.
Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Edit B. Kiss, a holistic therapist, success habit coach, and bestselling author, on the Fulfillment Therapy podcast. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of spiritual practices and holistic healing. Edit's journey began with her struggles with panic attacks and weight issues, which led her to explore Reiki and Karma Yoga. She shared, "Reiki was the first spiritual experience for me... It allowed me to understand that there is another energy out there, which I can use, and then I can reach out to higher dimensions".
This realization is echoed in the words of Angela Davis, who emphasizes the importance of nurturing our entire being:
"Wellness is not just about the body; it's about nurturing your mind, spirit, and soul to create a harmonious and balanced life."
As we embark on our own paths to wellness and fulfillment, it's crucial to recognize that true transformation often begins with small, intentional steps.
Edit's journey with Karma Yoga healing was particularly insightful. She explained that this practice involves communicating with the unconscious mind to release emotional traumas. This process is akin to trauma therapy, focusing on forgiveness and letting go of negative emotions associated with past memories. As Edit noted,
"Forgiveness is really important in this process and to let go, and then that's when you actually stop the triggers as well."
This approach resonates with the broader concept of wellness, where mental and emotional healing are integral to overall well-being.
For those seeking to improve their mental health and wellness, Edit recommends starting with meditation. She suggests that meditation can help connect us with our higher selves and ground us in the present moment. Her YouTube channel offers guided meditations that can be a powerful tool for beginners. As she shared, "Meditation is the best way to do it... There are so many kinds of meditations out there". This emphasis on mindfulness aligns with the wisdom of Laozi, who advises us to "be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are".
In terms of practical advice for improving family fulfillment, Edit emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries and taking care of one's physical health. She advises examining diet and sleep patterns, as these can significantly impact mental well-being. Additionally, creating a supportive environment by setting boundaries with toxic relationships is crucial.
"Don't meet with people who are not bringing you joy and happiness."
This advice is supported by the wisdom of Mother Theresa, who reminds us that promoting peace begins at home: "What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family".
Edit's book, On the Healer's Journey, offers further insights into creating personal fulfillment and healing. It explores the concept of boundaries and how acknowledging our strengths can lead to a more fulfilling life. The book also highlights the ripple effect of healing, where personal growth can positively impact our entire family. As Edit noted, "If you start your healing, they will feel it and they will actually transform too". This idea is beautifully encapsulated in the words of Maya Angelou, who said, "I sustain myself with the love of family".
In conclusion, our journey to personal and family fulfillment is a deeply personal and transformative process. It involves embracing spiritual practices, nurturing our relationships, and cultivating a sense of well-being that resonates across all aspects of our lives. As we strive to live our best lives, we must remember that fulfillment is not a destination but a continuous journey of growth and self-discovery. By embracing this journey with an open heart and mind, we can create a life that is rich in purpose, love, and harmony—truly living our best lives. And as Edit so eloquently put it,
"Fulfillment is more about how to make others happy...to help others."
This mindset not only enriches our own lives but also contributes to a more compassionate and supportive community around us.
